On Thursday, Nov. 10, scientific theories and ideas were introduced to some of Milligan’s student body at an event sponsored by the Society of Scientific Christian Scholars.
Students gathered in SUB 7 around 7 p.m. to listen and ask questions as Dr. Wentzel (Professor of Physics), Dr. Jackson (Professor of Bible and Humanities), and Dr. Eisenback (Professor of Biology and Area Chair of Scientific Learning) spoke on the subjects of religion and science and how the topics relate.
A number of students filled the room for the SFP event, so much so that the room was completely packed. Some chose to sit on the floor just to be present and listen.
The professors went back and forth discussing their own views on the topics, and students inched closer and closer as these new – or somewhat unfamiliar – ideas were introduced.
Grace Gemar, the president of the Society of Scientific Christian Scholars, revealed her own beliefs about Evolutionary Christianism, and this sparked a new conversation about evolution and what the Bible has to say about it.
Sophomore Luke Dove brought up the Bible verse Romans 6:23, “For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord,” to Dr. Jackson and posed a question regarding death, asking if it is purely spiritual, physical, or a combination of the two.
As the night progressed, conversations continued to revolve around science, creation and the role of Jesus Christ.
