The season of award shows is upon us with the Academy Awards ceremony scheduled for March 4. The best and brightest of 2017 cinema will be showcased, but, just a day before, the Razzies will reveal the winners of their nominated losers.

The Razzies, or the Golden Raspberry Awards, is a mock awards ceremony that nominates the worst cinematic candidates of the year.

The categories include Worst Picture, Worst Actress, Worst Actor, Worst Supporting Actress, Worst Supporting Actor, Worst Remake, Worst Director and Worst Screenplay. Members of The Golden Raspberry Foundation will vote in each category to see who will win the unwanted Golden Raspberry award.

Some of the nominations include: “Baywatch,” “The Emoji Movie,” and “The Mummy” for Worst Picture; Dakota Johnson in “Fifty Shades Darker,” Katherine Heigl in “Unforgettable,” and Tyler Perry in “BOO! 2: A Madea Halloween” for Worst Actress; and Tom Cruise in “The Mummy,” Mark Wahlberg in “Daddy’s Home 2” and “Transformers XVII: The Last Knight,” and Zac Efron in “Baywatch” for Worst Actor.

“I’ve actually only seen one of the nominated films for Worst Picture,” Kenny Suit, associate professor of cinema, said. “Even when watching the trailers, you could tell that the movies weren’t worth seeing in the first place.”

Already, “Transformers XVII: The Last Knight” could prove to be the worst movie of 2017, coming in with a whopping nine nominations alone.

Despite the latest installment of “Transformers” being a flop, Suit said, “The worst movie I have ever seen was with Professor John Jackson. and it was Kirk Cameron’s ‘Saving Christmas.’ I guess the one takeaway is don’t let John Jackson pick movies.”
