McVey stages Red Riding Hood

Who knew Little Red Riding Hood and the Big Bad Wolf could sing and dance? Milligan saw Red and the Wolf do both this Wednesday in "Little Red Riding Hood: A Children's Opera in One Act."

The operetta, which played before an audience of about 80 at the Gregory Center, was directed and cast by senior Will McVey as his senior project for MUSC 490.

McVey, a music major, said that he chose to do an operetta because of his studies in operatic technique and performance at Milligan.

In order to satisfy his project requirements, McVey provided musical direction, organized rehearsals, provided the set, costumes and props and oversaw all technical aspects of the performance, according to the show's program.

My life as a college student is a tightly wound mechanism, well oiled with caffeine. The machine only works under strict rules of efficiency. My backseat folds down into a convenient storage area, spaghetti sauce jars become flower vases, the coffee table acts as the dinner table. It's a delicate balance. One more item, and the whole construction might come tumbling down.
