"Arizona Summer," is Mike Kaals' senior art exhibit and the first to be held in the Gregory Center. The show opened last Sunday from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. Kaal, a fine arts major, was pleased with the turnout, as about 250 people attended the show.

McVey stages Red Riding Hood

Who knew Little Red Riding Hood and the Big Bad Wolf could sing and dance? Milligan saw Red and the Wolf do both this Wednesday in "Little Red Riding Hood: A Children's Opera in One Act."

The operetta, which played before an audience of about 80 at the Gregory Center, was directed and cast by senior Will McVey as his senior project for MUSC 490.

McVey, a music major, said that he chose to do an operetta because of his studies in operatic technique and performance at Milligan.

In order to satisfy his project requirements, McVey provided musical direction, organized rehearsals, provided the set, costumes and props and oversaw all technical aspects of the performance, according to the show's program.

Leaders from Institutional Advancement, Annual Fund and General Development, Alumni Relations, Church Relations and Planned Giving departments gave a brief recap of the events that have occurred since the meeting in October. Then they briefly spoke of the steps that will be taken in the months to come.

The committee, headed by Vice President for Academic Affairs, Mark Matson, and Dr. Mark Webb, is compiled of seven trustee members and various heads of the academic departments at Milligan. Over the course of the year, Milligan has opened a brand new Wellness Center equipped with Nintendo Wii's, construction workers have broken ground to begin building much-needed dressing rooms for the tennis courts and the blueprints for soccer field renovations have been printed. Most recently, the library started collecting pennies for library renovations.

Unfortunately, in comparing fundraising efforts on campus, students are more likely to shell out cash for game systems than they are to donate spare change for library renovations.
