Baseball splits regular season ender

The baseball team ended its regular season in a doubleheader against Union College on Saturday, April 26. The Buffs won the first game 10-4, but lost the second 6-3.
Sophomore pitcher Frank Newcomb opened the series by throwing five strikeouts in five innings. After allowing five hits and four runs, Newcomb held on to earn his fifth win of the season.
Union's Matt Brady hit a homerun in the top of the fourth to take the lead, but sophomore Ricky Morgan hit a single in the bottom of the fourth and sent junior Justin Motte home to tie the score.
Junior Joe Grinstead of Union College hit a solo homerun to right-center field in the top of the fifth, followed by sophomore Josh Ehringer's two RBIs. This upped the Bulldogs' lead 4-1, but the Buffs answered with six runs in the bottom of the fifth.
Outfielder Baker DeCamp hit a double to left-center field in the top of the fifth. Juniors Brandon Murphy, Spencer Street and Motte followed DeCamp's double with a single and one RBI apiece. Sophomore Dallas Crouch, the designated hitter from Jefferson City, knocked in two more runners with a double to the center field fence, making the score 7-4.
Sophomore lefty pitcher Todd Caldwell came in at the top of the sixth and pitched a flawless four innings, with five strikeouts and no hits, walks or errors in his third save of the year.
"I just wanted to do whatever I could on the mound to get the win for the seniors," said Caldwell after the game.
Junior shortstop Brian Busby, Street and Motte collected three more RBIs, finishing the game 10-4.
"It felt good to compete with and beat one of the best teams in the nation and show them what we're made of," said senior outfielder Drew Anders.
According to the latest NAIA poll, Union College is ranked 14th in the nation.
Milligan started out strong in the second game scoring three runs in the first two innings.
Senior pitcher Jonathan Stoudt opened the second game, giving up two hits and two runs.
