Professor of Theater Richard Major wanted to direct a comedy but also wanted to perform a classic. After consulting with faculty members, Major decided on this particular Shakespeare selection, which was included in the freshman humanities curriculum this semester.
"Part of the reason why we chose 'Comedy of Errors' is because we have a number of students who I think are particularly good at physical comedy," said Major. "I think it turned out to be a pretty good choice."
The humor of "The Comedy of Errors" revolves around mistaken identity: two sets of twin brothers who were separated at birth find themselves in the same city 25 years later.
"It certainly has been great fun just rehearsing in the new theater," said Major. "It is a very audience-friendly space with soft, sumptuous seating. It was fun to finally get into the new theater and put the Milligan stamp on it."
The audience for "The Comedy of Errors" was a mix of Milligan students, alumni, staff and faculty. Judging from their laughter and applause, the audience received it well.
"Milligan's rendition of the 'The Comedy of Errors' was both delightful and a real treat," said Kenny Laughters, admissions counselor. "I would enjoy seeing more comedies presented by the Milligan theater department."
"It was really nice to enjoy the new building," said sophomore Kristin Hardwick. "It made for a nice date night with dinner and then watching a play on campus for only five dollars."
