With match scores of 18-25, 31-29, 21-25, 25-16 and 5-15, currently AAC-ranked third Union College took the win from Milligan, which ranks fifth in the AAC.
"We played well and we came out ready to play," said Head Coach Doneva Bays. "Union is a great team and they are high in the conference. We're young and we're definitely getting better as we go so that will help us win."
"It was a hard fought game," said Brittney Wooley who attended to support Milligan.
The second match was close with multiple game point opportunities. In the end, Milligan was able to pull through and win the game. Milligan also won the fourth game by nine points.
"I thought that Milligan is a young team but they played strong, they hit the floor, and their defense is good," said Union Head Coach, Whitney Erb. "With some practice, (Milligan) could have a major upset in the conference."
Blocking big and playing hard at the net are some of Union's strengths, said Erb.
"They are a really tough team," said sophomore Ashley Agin, an outside hitter. "And there are a lot of mistakes that we made. We need to generate more points and have consistency throughout the match."
Both Agin and senior defensive-player Christy Degen agreed that hitting was definitely one of Milligan's strengths.
"It was really frustrating but we stuck together and finished," said Agin.
"We just didn't pull it out tonight," said Degen. "It was a long struggle and we battled through it but we just didn't have enough in the end. We're going to continue working on our communication and intensity."
Overall, Milligan's women's volleyball record is 5-15 and they are ranked 2-3 in the AAC conference.
Milligan's next conference will be against Tennessee-Wesleyan 10 a.m. Saturday in the Steve Lacy Fieldhouse.
