This past week, Milligan hosted its second annual Big Buff Weekend. This time, however, most events took place during weekdays.

It all started off with men’s and women’s soccer on Wednesday night. Orange snacks, like Orange Crush and Mooncakes, were offered during the games, and between the two games there was a hot dog cookout. Students were given punch cards when they arrived, and those who attended every event were entered into a drawing to win a flat screen TV.

Wednesday night ended with a 1-6 loss to Bluefield College (Va.) for the men, but the women had their first AAC shutout with a 2-0 win over Bluefield.

Big Buff WEEKend continued on Thursday with a race up Sutton Hill by the cycling team and a home run derby. Sophomore Kyle Tiesler and graduate student Stephanie Cucaz Nave won the men’s and women’s divisions respectively in the race up Sutton Hill.

Senior Chris Patterson won the homerun derby after rounds with multiple ties. Five players from the team were selected randomly to compete in three rounds. Round one they were given three minutes to hit as many homeruns as they could and were allowed a 30 second timeout. Round two saw the top two finishers from round one bat for two minutes. Patterson came out on top of it all.

Friday finished up Big Buff WEEKend with a women’s volleyball game at Emory and Henry. A fan bus left from Milligan to take students, and the team ended up with a 3-1 win.

Overall, Big Buff WEEKend was a success. Milligan won two out of three of their games, and students had a blast.
