This past Thursday, students piled into the Steve Lacy Fieldhouse for Moonlight Madness. Both the men’s and women’s basketball teams played a scrimmage, and the cheer and dance team previewed some of their numbers for the year.

At the end of the night, the whole crowd gathered around the gym for a prayer circle

The highlight of the basketball games was when junior soccer player Amy Long joined the women’s team and made her shot.

A dunk contest followed the basketball games. The winner was sophomore DeSean Greene, who defeated the returning champion, Tyler Nichols, although the two had to go into a bonus round to break the tie.

Two students were chosen to compete for free Chick-fil-A for a year in the Rock Paper Scissors tournament, another highlight of the evening. Senior Mitchell Hancock and Long were the final two. They had to make a half court shot to win the Chick-fil-A for a year, which neither made, though Hancock came very close.

The crowd was invited to participate in a team relay, and the winning team received a coupon for a free Chick-fil-A sandwich.

Sophomore Cory Aulich with the TV he won through Big Buff Weekend

Another exciting event was the announcing of the winner of the TV from Big Buff Weekend. All the students who attended every event of Big Buff Weekend were entered into a drawing to win a 40-inch TV. Sophomore Cory Aulich was the winner.

The newest basketball recruit, Eli Roberts, was in attendance for the first game of the season. Diagnosed with a brain tumor, the five-year-old signed through The Friends of Jaclyn program.

The night ended with a prayer circle that included everyone in attendance. Coach Bill Robinson, the men’s coach, led the prayer circle. He prayed for a safe and great year for all of the teams and coaching staff in attendance, as well as the other athletic teams on campus.
