The Milligan Women’s Soccer team is aiming high in the AAC. The team pulled off a winning streak of six back-to-back wins. As of November 14, Milligan stands fourth in the conference with a total of 24 points with Truett McConnell College in first with 36 points.

The women’s soccer team started this season with a rocky start, losing their first two games to Rio Grande and North Greenville and tying with King College in their third game with no goals on either side. Head Women’s Soccer Coach and adjunct professor of Exercise Science, Lisa Buckley, says she understands that frustration comes with new seasons.

Early season is difficult,” Buckley said. “You are trying to get a feel for your team and its strengths and weaknesses. I felt like we were playing pretty well, but we weren’t getting the results; I knew that if I could keep the girls confidence up then we could start to get the results.” And results they have gotten, gaining a six-game win streak later in the season.

Junior Bekah Cundiff said she thinks the team is “finally beginning to be able to play each other’s game. We have always been talented individually, but really strong teams know how to string each other’s strengths together, and I think we can do that now.”

Senior Taylor Freeman commented, “We have so much talent this year. We have come up against so much adversity early on, and nothing has come easy, but the heart and character this team has shown has truly blown my mind.”

The team has made a strong comeback, but that doesn’t mean that they haven’t had to work hard for it.

Freshman Ashlen Burch, said that of their six-streak wins, Truett McConnell University  was “the most difficult team we have played thus far. They had a strong defense, fast forwards and good ball handling skills.”

It definitely seems that time has been on the Women’s Soccer team side, allowing them to come together and crank out win after win. It is only a matter of time before we see where they place at the end of the season.
