Milligan hosted family weekend Feb. 14-16. Several athletic, academic and artistic events were offered around campus that appealed to both students and their parents according to Jason Onks, director of campus activities.

Onks is in charge of scheduling the date of family weekend as well as organizing other events for entertainment. He typically targets weekends with many home sporting events since a large part of the student body are student athletes. Family weekend also includes the annual Dean’s List ceremony.

The Milligan Fine Arts Nerds club provided free coffee and paint supplies for families to enjoy on Saturday.

Over 500 students made the Dean’s List this year based on their fall semester GPAs.  While not all of them attend the ceremony, it is still one of the biggest draws of the weekend.

The Fine Arts Nerds, a Milligan arts club, hosted an event for the weekend titled Coffee, Canvas and Tunes. Coffee was available for students and parents to enjoy while they took advantage of free painting supplies and listened to live music in SUB 7 on Saturday.

Campus activities also supplied board games and cards for families to enjoy in SUB 7 on Sunday afternoon.

Flyers for the Love Cabaret were hung in dorms.

The Love Cabaret was a musical event directed by Carrie Klofach, assistant professor of musical theatre. The show featured a collection of iconic Broadway love songs and a few others presented by Milligan students. Tickets were $5 for students, faculty and staff, and $10 for guests. The show took place in the Gregory Center Friday and Saturday night as well as Sunday afternoon.

Men’s and women’s basketball played at home on Saturday, both falling to Union College.

“My desire for family weekend is to offer an opportunity for families… to come and reconnect with their kids and maybe also the friends of the kids… but also get to experience life here on campus,” said Onks.

The variety of activities Milligan hosted allowed for just that during this year’s family weekend.
