Vespers, a weekly student-led Christian worship service on campus, has announced that they will be selling t-shirts. All proceeds from the t-shirt sales will go to El Ayudante, a Christian humanitarian organization. The t-shirts will cost $19.99, and they will be available to purchase throughout the semester.

El Ayudante was established in 200l, and it is based in León, Nicaragua. The organization provides housing, education, job skills, meals, medical care, and spiritual nurturing for children and their families. El Ayudante provides the opportunity to partner with them by sponsoring children, and they also host ministry teams from the United States throughout the year to help bring change to the Nicaraguan community.

Their mission statement is, “We are a Christian humanitarian organization based in León, Nicaragua, dedicated to partnering with the Nicaraguan people to transform the nation: One child, One family, One community at a time.”

Lauren Petty, a sophomore at Milligan University and Vespers committee member, has been on a mission trip hosted by El Ayudante, and she sponsors a child through the organization.

Instructions on how to purchase the Vespers t-shirt.

Petty introduced El Ayudante to the Vespers community when she spoke at one of their service’s last semester. Vespers Chair Zach Leslie approached Petty about partnering with El Ayudante to make t-shirts as a way to give students the opportunity to support the organization.

“I completely understand it is hard for students to commit to giving money each month. When Zach approached me about the ideas for t-shirts, I was all in. I think it’s much more directed to students on our campus and is more practical,” explained Petty. “I am beyond excited Zach found a way for Vespers to partner with El Ayudante.”

The t-shirts will be sold in three different colors (blue, green, and gray). On the front of the shirt will be the Vespers “Bear Fruit” logo from their current sermon series. On the back will be the traditional Vespers logo, as well as El Ayudante’s logo.
