The men’s golf team finished third behind two NCAA Division II schools in Chuckey, Tennessee.  A strong opening day helped them finish high on the leaderboards at the end of the second day. 

Carter Counts, who played as an individual led the Buffs with rounds of 81 and 69. The latter of those two was the lowest of day two, and only three strokes under par. 

Brandon Mathis (78-76/12th) and Jonathan Liggett (73-83/15th) followed with spots in the top 15, and Dane Rheinecker (75-84/20th) and Samuel Prater (81-79/23rd) finished in the top 25.

Milligan men scored a 307 on day one and followed with a 322 on day two. It marked the men’s highest finish of the 2020-21 season and their best since opening the fall campaign with a fourth-place finish.

Milligan women earned spots on the all-tournament team to lead the number 14. The spots were earned by Alayna Perryman and Emma Brown. 

Perryman (75-79/third) and Brown (77-80/fourth) were the first two of six Buffs who finished in the top 16, Gabby Hammond (82-77) had a strong second round to finish sixth, and Meryl Castle (79-81) took seventh. Jenny Simonsen and Madison Blanton rounded out the Buffs slate.

Milligan women scored a 310 on day one and followed with a 317 on day two.

Up next, Milligan women’s golf competes the weekend of Saturday-Sunday, March 27-28. The event will take place at The Oldfield Club in Bluffton, South Carolina. As for the Milligan men’s golf team, they will host a dual match against Walters State on Thursday, April 1, before hosting the Mountain Empire Intercollegiate on Monday-Tuesday, April 12-13. Both will take place at Elizabethton Golf Club.
