Milligan’s men’s and women’s basketball teams faced off against Johnson University on Nov. 9 in their first home matches of the season. This also marked the first games in which fans were able to attend since the COVID-19 pandemic began and the stands were packed.

The Lady Buffs ended the night with an 82-64 victory over the Royals, bringing their season record to 2-3 overall and 2-0 in conference.

Jaycie Jenkins was the game leader for the night with 22 points and seven rebounds, making that her fourth straight game as the Buff’s highest scorer. Lily Griffith and Lauren Longmire grabbed seven rebounds each. Longmire also contributed four assists.

The men were not as lucky, losing a hard fought battle against the Royals 68-84, bringing their season record to 0-3 overall and 0-2 in conference. The team took the lead for the first time in the game at the nine minute and 40 second mark of the final half with a score of 52-51. However, Johnson quickly made a comeback less than two minutes later. The Buffs finally ran out of steam with just over three and a half minutes left, conceding 21 points in that time while only scoring 5.

Despite the loss, several Buffs still put on a strong performance. Juniors Sami Sanad and Levontae Knox tied for the top men’s scorers at 16 points each. Knox also had nine rebounds while senior Trevor Hensley had 3 assists.

The men have since tallied losses against St. Andrews and Truett McConnell, bringing their record to 0-5. Alternatively, the women brought home wins against St. Andrews and Brenau, moving them to a 4-3 record.

The next home match for both teams takes place Nov. 17 against Tennessee Wesleyan.
