Milligan’s tutoring services are up and running. These services are free to all Milligan students, and are offered for a number of different courses. This program is set up to pair students with other students who have experience with the classes already and know what to expect.

Megan Christian, a senior education major, has had her fair share of tough courses. “Classes and lectures can oftentimes be overwhelming. I know how hard it can be in classes here at Milligan, so knowing I can be there to offer help in any way is a big part of why I wanted to tutor.”

Christian says that tutoring is beneficial for all students and that it never hurts to go over what students are learning in class.

“Tutoring helps students who already have good grades strive for even better grades.”  She says. Christian also said that she believes there is a negative stigma behind tutoring. “There is a sort of shame that people may feel when asking for help, but people should know that it is normal and is actually the responsible thing to do.”

Christian talks about a number of methods and strategies behind tutoring but she ultimately lands on her most favored one. “I go over their notes with them and have them ‘teach’ it back to me, this is the best way to help students review their notes and remember them.”

Freshman Hannah Manns has already taken advantage of Milligan’s tutoring program. She had a late start to her humanities class and felt like she was falling behind.

“The reason I went to tutoring was because I needed help with humanities. I was intrigued with how helpful it actually was.”

Hannah highly recommends tutoring to her classmates. She says “There were so many great resources, don’t be scared to go to tutoring, everybody needs to study.”

Christian agrees, and says that tutoring can be just as beneficial for the tutor as it can be for the student.

“Teaching someone else about a subject takes a whole new level of understanding. It helps build your knowledge on things you thought you already knew,” she said.

Being an education major, Christian is very passionate about teaching.

“There is nothing like the moment when the lightbulb finally clicks in the students’ head. That makes it all worthwhile.”

Students use Christian’s services on Thursday and Friday in the Student Union Building from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. She offers tutoring for Bible 123 and 124, composition 111, Humanities 102 and 201. To find out more about Milligan’s tutoring services, visit today.milligan.edu.
