Milligan University’s Student Government Association held its first Senate meeting of the fall semester on Thursday evening, welcoming returning members and swearing in new representatives.
The meeting began with a devotional from SGA Secretary Elise Pelton, who reflected on passages from the Gospel of Mark and encouraged members to consider rest not as distraction, but as a form of spiritual renewal. Members also shared prayer requests for fellow students, friends and family members.
President Nia Ailshie outlined expectations for the year, including weekly Senate and committee meetings and more streamlined meeting agendas.
She also highlighted a recent change to the bylaws: Newly formed student clubs may now request up to $75 in their first semester, with access to full funding once they demonstrate sustained activity.
The senate reviewed Welcome Week events, such as the foam party and Rush Day, and discussed upcoming freshman elections, set for Sept. 16.
One highlight of the evening was the approval of Circle K International, a new service-oriented club focused on leadership and community engagement.
SGA also swore in senior, junior and sophomore representatives, who pledged to uphold the SGA constitution and serve the student body. The meeting closed with a reaffirmation of SGA’s mission: to foster community, represent the student body, and build a Christ-centered environment on campus.
