Milligan University’s men’s and women’s swim teams won the AAC Swim Championships, earning a sixth straight title for the men and a fifth consecutive championship for the women.

The three-day competition was held at the Kingsport Aquatic Center’s HMG competition pool. Milligan’s men’s team totaled 1,041 points, while the women’s team finished with 921 points.

Milligan swimmers combined for more than 20 top-three finishes, setting multiple meet records and earning numerous individual titles throughout the championship.

Among the notable performances, freshman Abby Maniace won the women’s 100-yard butterfly in 57.44 seconds, setting a new conference record. ]

“I think me and the team did pretty good, especially under the recent circumstances with the carbon monoxide leak. In the end, I felt like nothing could really stop us and I am proud of my and the team’s performance,” Maniace said.

Freshman business administration major Emily Newman placed second in the women’s 100 freestyle with a time of 53.98 seconds.

“Both boys and girls won conference, and I think we all performed very well,” Newman said. “We are really excited to have Coach Graves join us as head coach.”

With their AAC championships secured, Milligan’s swimmers will compete next at the NAIA Swimming and Diving Championships at the Elkhart Aquatic Center in Elkhart, Indiana.
