Last Sunday, March 22, senior graphic design students presented their capstone work in the exhibit “Liminal,” which opened at the Milligan Art Gallery in Derthick Hall.

The showcase featured a range of projects exploring themes of transition, identity and professional growth. The opening reception held on Sunday afternoon welcomed visitors from campus and the local community.

The title “Liminal” reflects the in-between stage students experience as they prepare to graduate and enter the professional world. The concept is visually represented through pieces that emphasize scale, space and anticipation.

The designers are Adam Bengtson, Spencer Hall, Joselin Martinez and Emy Rose Leggett. Their work includes branding, editorial design and visual storytelling. Each designer brought a distinctive perspective shaped by personal background and experience.

Bengton’s work focused on waiting and transition, using imagery such as a bus stop to symbolize temporary spaces. Martinez highlighted the connection between graphic design and business, emphasizing audience engagement and communication. Leggett explored her interest in animation and future directions, while Hall’s pieces reflected his technical growth and collaborative experiences within the program. Hall said projects took anywhere from two weeks to a year.

“My favorite project is the Timothy Program T-Shirt which is a shirt design that I did for my summer camp. It’s the one I worked on the longest for and also the one I put the most effort in,” said Hall. For more information on Milligan’s visual and communicative arts program, visit www.milligan.edu/pvc.
