Milligan’s SGA collaborated with University president Stephen Waers for a town hall event in the Gregory Center auditorium on Monday Nov. 24.

The town hall covered a variety of topics with President Waers answering questions from students. Students were open to ask any questions they wanted.

The attendees asked a variety of questions from updates to the wellness center and cafeteria to recent staff changes.

Including the university president, Stephen Waers, and SGA president, Nia Ailshie, who opened the event, there were about 50 people who attended the event.

Waers introduced the event by talking about his presidency and what stepping into the role has looked like with a presidential transition.

Waers explained this presidential transition meant observing the school in his first year and then making appropriate shifts for the better running of the school in the future. Waers said he doesn’t want the status of the school to be fine but “thriving” instead.

In an announcement for this event, an email said that president Waers and leaders of this event had a special announcement.

According to an email about this event sent out to the Milligan community on Nov. 24, “President Waers and the Student Development Office will be making an important and exciting campus announcement.”

President Waers announced at this event that the administration has plans to “completely renovate Webb hall”. Waers explained that to completely tear down the building would not be budget friendly, so this is why the president is moving forward with the renovations instead of a complete start from scratch. Waers announced with this that a donation of 1 million dollars will be used to help fund this project.
