Milligan University will no longer allow future student-athletes to combine academic and athletic scholarships starting in fall 2026, raising concerns about affordability and recruitment. Milligan sophomore Katelyn Williams is graduating early due to FAFSA changes and prior credits, but she feels pressured by the heavy course load and disappointed to lose part of her college swimming experience.
Milligan University announced that Athletics Director Christian Pope has left his position, though Pope told the swim team the decision was not mutual. President Waers named Jeff Bourn as interim director and said the university would not comment further on the personnel matter.
Milligan’s disc golf A team won the Volunteer Throwdown at UT, finishing 17 under par, while the B team took second in Division II. Several Milligan players also earned top singles finishes, and the team will compete next at the Bluegrass Regional Qualifier on Feb. 21.
Milligan University’s men’s and women’s cross-country teams won the AAC Championships, marking the women’s sixth and men’s seventh consecutive titles. Ellen-Mary Kearney set a record breaking run and earned Women’s Runner of the Year, while several teammates and coach Chris Layne received conference honors.
Some Milligan University students using VA education benefits are facing delays in their monthly payments due to the government shutdown slowing certification processing. The issue mainly affects Chapter 35 recipients, while students using the Post-9/11 GI Bill (Chapter 33) have not experienced delays.
