With the semester coming to an end, and Milligan College’s campus still closed, traditional campus tours are no longer available. On April 18, Milligan hosted its own Virtual Preview Day allowing for interested parties such as incoming freshmen, transfer students and parents to learn more about the college.

The preview showcased Milligan’s unique community. With an enrollment of only 1,300, the smaller student body invites students to become more involved on campus and to form closer relationships with each other.

“At Milligan, students are known by name,” said Director of Admissions Kristin Wright to Milligan’s Public Relations team. “Our preview days let us welcome prospective students into our community.”

On Virtual Preview Day, Milligan’s admissions staff offered signups for video meetings using Zoom, bringing interested parties face-to-face with the Milligan community. Virtually, they would be met with members of the admissions staff and a panel of student ambassadors currently attending the college.

“I thought the turnout was really good, especially since it was all virtual,” said Lydia Helton, one of the student ambassadors on the panel. “The students that attended seemed to really enjoy the personal connections they were able to make with the faculty and current Milligan students.”

In each of the six sessions held on Saturday, visitors were able to learn general information about Milligan in a 45 minute pre-recorded session, tour the campus along with a board of student ambassadors and participate in multiple Q&A segments tailored to their possible interests.

“The prospective students asked a lot of good questions about both student life and the admissions process that made it meaningful for them and many of them participated and interacted in the icebreaker games,” said Helton.

Each attendee had the opportunity to talk personally and ask current students questions while taking the tour. Other available sessions included lectures and Q&A about financial aid more geared towards parents and one-on-one conferences with faculty members in their desired field of study. The meetings, held by professors in each of Milligan’s offered fields, often were accompanied by a distinguished student under that professor, which made the experience more inclusive and insightful.

The final decision date for prospective students has been moved from May 1 to June 1, however, the college encourages students to make their decision sooner than later so that they can secure the maximum amount of financial aid.
