TWIRP Week is back at Milligan University.

TWIRP stands for “The Woman Is Required to Pay,” and Milligan hosts the weeklong event consisting of various activities each year. Traditionally speaking, TWIRP encourages women to ask men out. However, TWIRP Week isn’t limited to this concept. Students are encouraged to invite their friends, or come on their own, to participate in the events.

Brealle Davis, Director of Student Activities, tells The Stampede that TWIRP Week happens early in the semester for a reason.

“TWIRP Week is scheduled early on in the semester to provide an intentional opportunity for students to meet new people,” she said. “It also helps build relationships they may have already formed.”

The week is full of activities, so there’s plenty to do.

On Sunday, students enjoyed “Sundaes on Sunday” in SUB 7, which, as its name suggests, offered students the chance to eat ice cream while being able to socialize with friends and those in attendance. There was not a TWIRP Week event on Monday, as it was Labor Day. Tuesday saw roller skating at the JC Family Skate Center in Johnson City, while Wednesday will consist of bowling at Holiday Lanes, also in Johnson City.

Thursday will see a volleyball tournament, with Kona Ice treats available. The tournament starts at 7:30 p.m. at the sand court. Friday is the annual Sadie Hawkins dance, a dance to which women usually invite the men. This will last from 9:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m. at the tennis pavilion.

Those who wish to sign up for the volleyball tournament can do so here. View the rest of the week’s schedule below.
