Milligan hosted a career fair on Tuesday, Sept. 23, in the Lacy Fieldhouse. The event, organized by Beth Anderson, featured 24 businesses ranging from finance and engineering to construction and the Bristol Motor Speedway. The fair allowed students to explore potential career paths, meet employers, inquire about internships, and practice networking skills. Attendees also had the chance to ask questions about different industries and gather resources for future job searches.
While some students walked around and browsed, others engaged in conversations with company representatives. Most businesses present were in finance or engineering, making the fair particularly relevant for students in those fields.
Each booth offered small promotional items such as candy, chips, pens and branded materials. Christian Assisted Living of Johnson City attracted attention by setting up a mini-golf game; students who scored a hole-in-one earned a snack.
Sophomore, Kayla Prudhomme said the number of companies in attendance stood out to her. “It was my first time going, so it was nice to learn about different careers,” she said. “But not many of the places pertained to psychology in general, which is my major.”
Junior Lucy Knowles, an international student from Staffordshire, Great Britain, noted the variety of internships available in the Tri-Cities area. “I spoke to a couple of different stalls but didn’t get an internship,” she said. “It’s difficult for me as an international student, as transport is very limited and I would struggle to get to the firms.” Knowles, an accounting major, said the fair was still beneficial, as many of the companies aligned with her career interests.
