Milligan University recognized and awarded more than 100 students and faculty members for their academic and athletic achievements on April 22–24. 

The fifth annual BUFFYS Award Program took place on Wednesday, April 22, at 7 p.m. in Mary B. Martin Auditorium in Seeger Memorial Chapel. Titled “A Night Among the Stars,” the ceremony highlighted several major accomplishments of the athletes and athletic teams this year. 

Female Academic Team of the Year: Golf

Male Academic Team of the Year: Swimming

Unsung Hero: Nina Lovelace (basketball)

Female Rookie of the Year: Paige Fortier (bowling)

Male Rookie of the Year: Trevor Sinard (track and field)

Comeback Athlete of the Year: Adria Alles (soccer)

Breakthrough Athlete of the Year: Aaron Cottlied (track and field)

Duard Walker Champions of Character Award: 32 athletes (at least one male and one female from each sport)

Support Staff of the Year: Athletic Training Staff

Assistant Coach of the Year: Taylor Davis (baseball)

Best Individual Performance: Elijah Bredwood (basketball)

Eli Cramer Award: Kenzie Campbell (basketball)

Fan of the Year: Dennis Bailey

Head Coach of the Year: Ryan Witten (flag football)

Male Athlete of the Year: Kerim Akpinar (soccer)

Female Athlete of the Year: Ellen-Mary Kearney (track and field) and Semaj Clark (basketball)

Male Team of the Year: Baseball

Female Team of the Year: Basketball

Following the ceremony was an after-party at 9:30 p.m. at the newly constructed Greer Pavilion. 

Milligan University’s Awards Convocation took place on Thursday, April 23, at 11 a.m. in Mary B. Martin Auditorium in Seeger Memorial Chapel. 

The ceremony highlighted more than 60 academic accomplishments of students and faculty from various departments this year. Some examples of awards included the “Ivor Jones Outstanding Senior Award,” the “Eugene P. Price Excellence in Economics Award” and the “Electrical Engineering Award.” The majority of the awards were accompanied by scholarships, cash or gift cards. 

The program also included recognition of Milligan Honors Program graduates, graduating honor society members and students accepted into graduate school programs. 

The Evening of Celebration Showcase took place on Friday, April 24, at 6 p.m in the McGlothlin-Street Theatre in the Gregory Center. 

The ceremony was in conjunction with the “An Evening of Film, Musical Theatre, and Theatre Arts” program, which featured performances by musical theatre, Workshop II and Voice and Movement. 

More than 25 awards were presented to students for their achievements and accomplishments throughout the year. Some included the “Outstanding Interactive Media Design Student,” “Best Lead Actor in a Play” and “WUMC Radio Leadership Award.” Several of the awards were accompanied by cash or gift cards. 

The award ceremonies recognized student achievements throughout the year. Latin honors (summa cum laude, magna cum laude and cum laude) will be distributed at commencement May 2 in Seeger Chapel.
