“Radio Rejects” is a weekly radio show that airs on Milligan College Radio 90.5 WUMC on Mondays between 8-9 p.m. Senior station manager Caleb Perhne and sophomore assistant station manager Dalton Smith spend their time streaming music that is not well known to the public. During the show, they also discuss the songs and artists that they play.

“Radio Rejects” became accepted into the world of music through the artist Matt Farley.

Perhne and Smith discovered The Very Nice Interesting Singer Man, which is one of Farley’s artist names. In early March, Farley reached out to the radio show expressing interest in writing a song about them. Once the two Milligan hosts started playing Farley’s music, Farley continued to send in his songs to the radio station to be played on air. Perhne and Smith play his music because they believe that he provides something that is different and interesting.

“He is a really great guy,” Smith said. “I am a big supporter and fan of Farley.”

One night on the radio show, Perhne and Smith decided to send Farley an email inviting him to call into their radio show sometime to talk about his music. Within 30 minutes, Farley called the radio station and talked about his music and inspirations. By the end of the show, Farley offered to write a song specifically for the show.

“I was awestruck,” Smith said. “I thought it was awesome that this guy had written a song about our radio show. It was a pretty great feeling to listen to the song. It was an amazing thing and we greatly appreciate someone who is as kind as Matt Farley is to offer to do something like that, especially for some random guys he’s never met.”
