When high school students think about which college they want to attend, they usually research the schools that interest them. Part of this research may include visiting and touring campuses. Milligan hosted a Preview Day for prospective students to come and visit this past Friday, Oct. 25.

Preview Day is exactly what it sounds like. A day for students and their families to come to the campus and get to know more about the school. Prospective students get to meet current students, talk to professors, eat in the cafeteria, tour the campus and even sit in on a class. The students and their families can also learn more about financial aid, scholarships and any major or minor that Milligan offers.

Kristin Wright, director of admissions, said that Preview Day is similar to a regular campus visit. “The only difference is  that it’s a larger-scale tour, and it’s not as personal with one-on-one tours.” She also added that there were 15 families that attended the event on Friday.

Wright talked about what she and the admissions office do to prepare for Preview Days, saying that the largest part is just setting up for the event and updating presentations. They also spend most of their time communicating with the families, letting them know the schedule and giving directions on how to get to Milligan. Another preparation detail includes coordinating with the cafeteria making sure all the food is paid for.

Wright also talked about why they choose to do the Preview Day during Homecoming. “There are always alumni’s kids who want to tour, and their parents are already coming for the weekend,” said Wright. “It’s also nice to plan them when the campus is a bit more exciting and livelier, capitalizing on the atmosphere of Homecoming.”

Wright added that this Preview Day, in particular, was a little more special than others. “We let the families attend the big announcement of Milligan becoming Milligan University,” she said. “That was a neat thing that doesn’t happen often, and they got to be a part of it.”

Senior and Student Ambassador, Kelly Koger, also thought this Preview Day was a hit. “I expected it to be outstanding. Every year it seems like this event gets better and better, and doing it on Homecoming is awesome,” she said.

As a student ambassador, Koger’s job can range from greeting the families to just talking and sharing their Milligan experience. This time, Koger’s job was giving tours and letting prospective students see all aspects of campus.

Both Koger and Wright thought Preview Day went well. “Everything went smooth. The weather was nice, and we let students see who we are as a school,” said Koger.
