Joey Reese, a Milligan University sophomore, has hit the TikTok scene with his tenor voice. From Nashville, Reese joined TikTok in hopes of making it big. He has always enjoyed singing and entertaining, so he took his skills to social media to try and find a following. Under the handle @joey_falcone, he recently hit 32 thousand followers and his videos have garnered over 300 thousand likes.

Girls on Omegle react to Joey singing.

The TikTok algorithm is designed to push content to viewers who may be interested via the “For You” page. Reese’s main content is filming himself on Omegle, where he impresses strangers with his vocal range. Songs he has performed include I Will Always Love You and Rolling In The Deep by Whitney Houston and Adele, respectively. He also does giveaways of gift cards of small value, which helps bring his content to many users.

“I create TikTok content because I enjoy entertaining people,” said Reese, “and TikTok is the perfect outlet.”

Reese has studied the TikTok algorithm in hopes of understanding it to help his content grow. As Joey spends most of his time practicing for the musical Children of Eden Jr., in choir rehearsal or cramming for his next exam, he finds time to film on the weekends and at night. He then saves the videos and waits till the next day for what he has deemed the “golden hour.”

“If you post during a certain time of the day, there are more people on TikTok, which boosts your chances,” said Reese.
