Over the last week of February the Milligan baseball team took to the road to travel for a four game stretch. The first game of the week was a shutout. The Buffs ran away with a 12-0 win at Johnson University Wednesday, Feb. 24 in non-conference action.

On Thursday and Saturday Milligan had their first Appalachian Athletic Conference action, as they played three games against Truett McConnell. Milligan won games one and three.

It was all about the offense in the series-opening doubleheader Thursday. Milligan and Truett McConnell combined for 44 runs in two games, Milligan winning the first 19-13 and Truett winning the second 10-2.

Despite the offensive outburst in game one, Milligan kept relatively quiet in game two. Anthony Guzman provided the only multihit game with a 2-for-4 effort, and he scored one of Milligan’s two runs after doubling, then scoring on a double in the fourth by Braden Spano.

“Things like that happen in baseball all the time. It was a four hour drive, so after the second game we all were tired,” says Andrie Beal, on the difference in play between the two games Thursday. “The second game they brought in a pitcher that we couldn’t get many hits off of.”

Milligan bounced back on Saturday, as they won 10-8, having two doubles, both provided by Justin Greene, a triple, provided by Chancery Hall, and a home run, provided by Brandon Marello.

Mililgan would split a series against Cumberland on March 2nd, losing the first game 6-2, but bouncing back to win 5-4.

Milligan stays traveling for a three-game set at Bluefield this Friday and Saturday. The next home games for the Buffs are set for March 12 and 13, against Kentucky Christian. The three-game series will be played at TVA Credit Union Ballpark in Johnson City.
