Milligan kicked off the Fall 2021 semester with an event-filled Welcome Week for its new and returning students. The week started off strong on August 21 as new students participated in the long-standing tradition of signing their names into the school records during the matriculation ceremony in Seeger Chapel.

The following day, new students headed to Doe River Gorge for off campus recreation, and all students were treated to a firework show behind the fieldhouse that night.

The week went on to include a drive-in movie, cookout and cornhole tournament, and a Goah hosted Block Party complete with food and dancing. While many may view welcome week as a way to help new students acclimate to college life, a few upperclassmen were quick to voice their appreciation for Milligan’s efforts.

Senior and Sutton RA Jasmine Jacquez believes that Milligan’s welcome week is essential for the Milligan student body as a whole to best prepare for the new school year.

“I think that welcome week for new students is a great way for them to get out and meet other students and create new friendships,” she said. “For returning students, welcome week is a nice way to ease back into classes during ‘syllabus week.’
