Five members from the Milligan University swim team competed in the 2021 CSCCA Collegiate Open Water Championships on Sept. 17. The championship took place at Lone Star Lake in Lawrence, Kansas and featured over 90 college athletes from across the NCAA, NAIA, and the NJCAA, with Milligan being the only representative from the NAIA division. 

Sophomore Gaby MacPherson swam in the women’s race, finishing in 49th place with a 5k time of 1:10.36.5.

Freshman Ethan McCosh and Andre Semensato, sophomore Stephen Gilbert and Junior Ben Hawkins all competed in the men’s race and finished seventh in the team rankings. 

Semensato finished fourteenth with a 5k swim time of 1:02.53.7, while McCosh and Hawkins finished 23rd and 24th respectively. 

“We trained extra hard this early in the year to specifically compete for this event,” Hawkins said. “The men’s team placed 7th overall, so we had a good time competing.” 

The swimming team will compete next in the King Invitational in Kingsport, TN on October 1.
