Milligan offers a variety of student-led clubs and organizations.

From academic interests to faith-based service, students have opportunities to connect outside the classroom, meet others who share similar interests and become more involved in the Milligan community.

Society of Crime, Law and Justice

The Society of Crime, Law and Justice gives students an opportunity to learn more about the criminal justice system.

The organization offers hands-on activities, field trips and guest speakers. Student adviser Jona Liles said the society hopes these opportunities will help students broaden their knowledge of the justice system in a positive way.

The club is open to students of all majors, with no requirements to join. Students can scan flyers posted around campus that direct them to a Google Form, where they can choose to be notified of upcoming events or help organize them.

The Society of Crime, Law and Justice began last year but had little presence on campus. Liles said the organization hopes to become more active this year and is open to ideas from students for future events.

Student Social Work Association

Milligan’s Student Social Work Association provides an opportunity for students to connect with others in the social work program.

The organization hosts dinners and student meetings where members discuss topics such as fieldwork opportunities. The group also participates in at least one Spiritual Formation Program event each semester, which could include informational lunches, service projects or discussions about the connection between Christianity and social work.

Students must have a major or minor in social work to join the organization. Student adviser Sophie Smith said prospective students can contact her or professors Stacey Kastens or Wendy Rice Hensley for more information.

Smith encourages students to consider a social work minor regardless of their major because the skills can be useful in a variety of careers.

Science Club

Milligan’s Science Club provides a community for students interested in science while also giving members the opportunity to build connections outside the classroom.

The club hosts a variety of events throughout the year. Student adviser Miriam Zeise said one of its largest events takes place during Homecoming, when members participate in the parade and offer hands-on science experiments for children.

Other activities include Trunk or Treat, a blood drive, a tour of Milligan’s physician assistant program, a women’s health night featuring a barre class and guest speakers, movie nights and study sessions before finals.

There are no specific requirements to join, and the club is open to all majors. However, most members are in science or health-related fields. Students can connect with the club during Rush Day each year, through students or professors in the science program, or through Instagram at @milliganuscienceclub.

Investment Club

The Investment Club seeks to teach the fundamentals of investing. Its goal is to help students learn how to make investment decisions based on economic trends. The club also gives students experience managing an investment portfolio for a real client: the Milligan University Board of Trustees.

President of the Investment Club, Megan Haire shared, “This year, I am looking forward to continued learning and reaching the goals that we have set as a group.”

Delight Ministry

Delight is a national women’s ministry with a chapter at Milligan that provides opportunities for women to grow in their faith and build relationships within a Christ-centered community.

Student adviser Claire Smith said Delight’s mission is to invite college women into a Christ-centered community that encourages vulnerability and transforms stories.

The group meets on Thursdays from 7:30 to 8:30 p.m. in the Jeanes Room. Meetings include worship, a curriculum-based Bible study and small-group discussions. Delight also participates in community service projects and other events, such as game nights.

Any woman on campus can participate, with no other requirements to join. Students can get involved by simply attending a Thursday meeting. Bible study books are available for about $17 for students who wish to follow along.

Catholic

Catholic Club offers a welcoming space for students looking to grow in their faith and build authentic relationships within a Christ-centered community.

The club hosts Bible studies, weekly rosaries and regular fellowship opportunities to help students spend time together and grow closer to Christ.

The organization is open to all students, whether they are practicing Catholics or are simply interested in learning more.

“I’m really excited for Catholic Club this year because I want it to be a place where people can grow in their faith, build real relationships and feel welcomed,” said Beth Boulware.

MU Prayer

MU Prayer is a club focused on intimacy with God and unity across the Church, where members offer their time in devotion through poetry, scripture and prayer

Organizer Ian Arney said, “I’m looking forward to the intimacy that will develop between God and ourselves and between one another as we yearn for our savior.”

Vespers

Vespers is a student-led, on-campus ministry aimed at bringing authentic worship and community to Milligan students.

Through Sunday services and weekday small groups, the ministry focuses on student discipleship, encouraging members to deepen their faith as followers of Christ while contributing to the growth of God’s kingdom.

Vespers Chair Canaan Webb shared that the team is looking forward to the coming year: “This year we are all excited and expectant to see what God is going to do through this ministry!”
