The Student Government Association hosted a town hall in the Student Union Building with Milligan’s Academic Dean, Rich Aubrey, at 7 p.m. on Sept. 22.
“This event was more about giving people the opportunity to ask questions,” said Aubrey.
Twelve students attended, including SGA President Nia Ailshie. Aubrey opened the event by saying all academics should center around Milligan University’s mission of educating men and women to be servant leaders.

Aubrey explained curriculum changes, including that English and history majors will become concentrations within the humanities major. He reiterated that six programs are being suspended, including film, journalism, computer science, cybersecurity, information systems and the Master of Arts in Coaching and Sports Management.
After outlining the changes, Aubrey gave students time to ask questions. He said he thought it was important for students to “be able to respond.”
“I met with Eloria Pelton (Vice President of SGA) on Sept. 5 and expressed the desire to have a session like this for students,” Aubrey said. He later brought it up with Ailshie, who agreed.
“When people have questions, SGA is supposed to connect students with administration, and the town hall is a way to do that,” Ailshie said.
“Not in the time that I’ve been at Milligan have we had a town hall,” Ailshie said. “Milligan needs to hold administration and their decisions accountable, and that means asking questions that they want to know the answers to.”
