Milligan’s Student Government Association is already hard at work this semester. With big events on the horizon, the SGA staff has begun the preparation process for students, family and friends.

The Events Committee plans SGA’s campus events, and each member of the committee has to coordinate at least one function on campus solo. The members often collaborate, though, with other clubs on campus.

Alexandra Kelley, junior and SGA secretary, said people have been coming to her with ideas for the upcoming events. “Shopping cart jousting was among the ideas, but it was ultimately turned down,” she said.

SGA President Jenee Boston

SGA President Jenee Boston is optimistic about the rest of the semester for this student-led group, and she hopes to bring back some previous events such as the Title IX presentation held last fall.

Boston explained that it had a great response, so she hopes to hold another for new and returning students. “Everybody loved it last time we did it,” said Boston. “I’d love to do it again. We just got an amnesty policy which goes along with the student conduct policy.”

The full amnesty policy is available online in Milligan’s sexual misconduct policy which can be found here

One other project that the student-led group hopes to organize an event focused on sustainability. “Something revolving around Earth Day would be nice,” said Boston, “We would like to partner with the recycling club.” Details are still in the works, but as the event nears, more information will come up.

The biggest upcoming event for Milligan is Homecoming week, which takes place October 21-26. Each class will host

their own event, but some will be combined. As the event gets closer, more details will be announced.

SGA welcomes anyone who wishes to come to their weekly meetings held Thursdays at 9 p.m. in the SUB. “Everyone is always invited to the meetings, and everyone always has a voice,” said Boston.
